Nuno Espirito Santo, the Wolverhampton Wanderer manager, has confirmed Diogo Jota’s transfer to Liverpool in a five-year deal that is worth £45 million ($58m).

While speaking at a pre-match press conference, on Saturday September 19th 2020, the Wolves boss, Nuno, said that the Portugal international forward’s transfer is a needed move in his professional career that would prepare him for challenges ahead.

‘First I want to apologize to those on Thursday for my answers but you understand.’

‘What Diogo did for us was absolutely fantastic. I think Diogo is going to the right place and we wish him all the best.

‘He’ll never be forgotten by our fans. Now we have to balance our squad better.

‘We know the type of player we want to bring and where we need to work on in our squad.’

As the Diogo is leaving Molineux for Molineux, Ki-Jana Hoever, a talented, 18-year-old Liverpool defender, would be heading in the opposite direction. Hoever scored one goal in four appearances for the Reds.

His initial signing with the Wolves was around £10million and that is expected to rise to about £13.5m with Liverpool holding a 15 per cent sell-on clause.

Speaking about the Wolves welcoming the talented player into its squad, Nuno said, “He will join us. He’s a young player with talent and potential.

“This is what is happening. Diogo is joining Liverpool, and Ki will join us. He’s not eligible for the match on Monday,” he added speaking about the upcoming match on Monday against Manchester United, having recorded a 2-0 win against Sheffield United in the opening of the new campaign.

“Liverpool is going to have a great player and boy, and Ki has a bright future ahead of him.

“We think this deal is good for everybody. Diogo was really happy here, but it’s normal that players like to face new challenges,” he added.

Playing for the Wolves, Jota, 23, made 131 appearances scoring 44 goals and 19 assists.

He joined the Wolves in 2017 from Atletico Madrid on an initial loan. In his first season with the club, he helped the club win the Championship title. He also, in his own part, helped the cub become a top-flight one in the League.
