Who represents the 80th Assembly District?
Who represents the 80th Assembly District?
By Anthony Rivieccio
The 80th Assembly district, our hometown has been under a sort of siege the last several months
Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez, who we had endorsed in the past, put together a district leader team of John Zaccaro & Jean Hill to run this electorial season.
We were not happy and let her know it.
Former District Leader Marcos Sierra decided to run again for re-election for District Leader and asked multi year candidate Irene Estrada to run with him.
Amazingly, after just barely making the ballot, Marcos & Irene won!
Which now leaves Ms Fernandez with 2 new party leaders, not of her choosing.
So, now she considers her options to run for Bronx Borough President in 2021. New District Leader, Marcos Sierra decided to run for Councilman of the 11th CD, also scheduled for 2021.
So what’s going to happen to the 80th AD if both of them win?
Well we decided to hold a team meeting to talk about it. After our team meeting, 2 conclusions have taken place
If 80th District Leader Marcos Sierra is running for City Council to win, and Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez is running for Boro President to win, then that leaves the 80th AD with the possibility of being severely underrepresented.
So Northwest Bronx Democrats ( NWBx Dems) is now discussing an exploratory Slate Committee for 2022, from Assemblyperson to State Committee
Residents and commerical tenants have been wanted their voices heard and protected- but to no avail.
Now, as early as February 2021, we can start building a Slate plan for Assemblyperson, District Leaders, State Committeepeople, Judicial Delegates and County Committee people in 2022.
We want to thank the early supporters of our 80th AD 2022 exploratory Committee for Assemblyperson, District Leaders and State Committee people: Cynthia Prisco, Dio Then, Carlos Rosario, Monique Trescott, Carlos Daniel Sanchez, Diana Finch, Antirson Ortiz and Ischia Bravo.
Others include Raquel Okyay, Dee Negron, Jose Padilla Jr, Nathalia Fernandez, Ny Whitaker, Sallie Caldwell, Edgar Oogie Ramos, Milenia Maria, Sirio Guerino, Edward Vargas, Sandra Colon, Oswald Feliz, Christian Amato, Lindsay Copeland, Tommy Torres, Dion Powell, Evy Baruchowitz Kazansky, Robert Press, Shanequa Charles, and Alexandra Micancin.
If 80th AD District leader Marcos Sierra & 80th AD Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernandez are successful in their future races ( and we see no reason why they should not) the 80th AD will be severly under- represented in 2022.
So our intention is to be ahead of the curve by finding a district wide exploratory select slate team of candidates for 2022 .
