Nigeria: Landmark College rewards best BECE candidate, waives 50% school fee
Landmark College, Ikorodu, Lagos, Nigeria, has rewarded one of the candidates who got the highest number of distinctions in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination.
Akeredolu Oluwasemilore Mopelola, an SS1 student, who sat for 10 subjects in the examination, made distinction in 7 subjects and a credit pass in other 3 subjects.
While commending Mopelola’s performance on Tuesday December 8, 2020, the school Principal, Mr Sanni J.A, explained that it is the culture of Landmark College to reward excellent academic performance among its students.
The Principal stated that as a school marked for excellence, it has become an annual gesture from the school management to reward any student who emerges brilliantly in the external examination.
“It is important we acknowledge the reality that students don’t possess the same academic strengths. All the students did wonderfully well, based on their individual strength,” Mr Sanni said.
He added that any student with the highest number of distinctions usually benefits a 50% discount from the school tuition fee.
Also speaking about the girl’s performance, the school Vice-Principal and Chief Counsellor, Dr Tunji Abiola, commended all the students for their performance in the examination.
He, however, noted that students learn at different paces.
Dr Abiola further emphasized individual learning ability that mostly accounts for students performance in the examination.
“This reward is just a motivating factor for other students to further intensify their effort towards excellent performance in all academic activities.
Dr Abiola added that the students are the nobles of Landmark College, and “They deserve to be celebrated for promoting the good image of this great college”.
The Principal therefore leveraged the opportunity to announce that the scholarship examination for students who are currently in JS1 class has been scheduled to hold on Friday December 11, 2020.
He said that the school will also waive the school fees of best two students among candidates.
The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is the main examination to qualify students for admission into secondary and vocational schools in Ghana, and Nigeria. It is written after three years of junior high school education.
