George Onuorah officially joins 21st District City Council race in Queens
George Onuorah, a first generation immigrant, has officially announced in intention to join the 21st City Council race in Queens.
He made this know on April 19 at Silver Spoon Diner by LeFrak City Corona.
According to Onuorah’s campaign manager, Eunice Ukwuani, his announcement took place outdoors because of covid pandemic protocols and directives.
The press release forwarded to New York Parrot reads: “As a community organizer, grassroots political leader, and compassionate Democrat who has invested over 30 years in learning about and being involved with transformative political governance, including the operation of political institution, the vision of achieving sustainable post-covid prosperity, he opined is very much attainable.”
In his campaign agenda, with specific focus on post-pandemic recovery, Candidate Onuorah highlighted his plans for rescuing his district at the City Council if elected.
“Our recovery from Covid-19 pandemic will be dependent on successfully vaccinating everybody in this 21st District to attain herd immunity. In the same vein, our economic recovery and resurgence must be fueled not only by massive stimulus of $1.9 billion dollars signed by President Biden but other avenues for wealth creation to activate growth. A healthy populace drives economic growth and expansion, and massive infrastructure spending definitely creates jobs and makes for sound economic health,” Onuorah said.
He further said that, as a Council member, he would ensure there’s an upgrade of public safety in the district through collaboration between NYPD and his community members and capacity building for security officers.
“I will rebuild trust between community and NYPD and re-introduce community policing gun buyback program, with adequate investment in re-training the police, create police/mental health taskforce. More so, I will make sure there’s our staff police precincts work with trained civilian staff in law enforcement to drastically bring down security challenges face by the district,” he further noted.
In addition to these, Onuorah promised to support the upgrade of the education system in the district by “empowering the School Board for great educational opportunities for children and aiding after-school activities that could help in engaging the future of the District, the youth”.
Onuorah added that his election to the City Council seat of 21st district in Queens would boost small business.
“I will make sure that small business owners are taught how to run their business and ensure they have access to extended soft loans with forgivable options. Not only that, I’ll fight against any regulations that adversely affect small business in the district,” he said.
In his final remarks, he promised to serve as an inspirational Council member to Queens young generation and provided them access to civic education that can prepare them for future leadership and other civic challenges.
“I’ll work relentlessly toward the introduction of Civics in schools as part of curriculum, which will have more emphasis on patriotism and community leadership, as this will encourage building a new generation of leaders require the JFK calling of ‘Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country’,” Onuorah reiterated. “Join me in this journey to help build a better more inclusive community of folks united by shared common purpose to lift us up from leadership without inspiration to engaging community for the upliftment of all~ children, youth, adults and our revered seniors!” he concluded.
