Ritchie Torres, other progressive Congress members meet with President Biden on BBB Act
Congressman Ritchie Torres, representing the congressional district 15 of New York State, along with his fellow Progressive members of the US congress have met with President Joe Biden to discuss the Build Back Better Act and reasons why it’s approval at the congress should not be dela
In a statement released by the White House, President Biden met with 12 progressive members of the Congress explaining the importance of BBB Act and the bipartisan infrastructure bill, especially for middle-class American families.
“The President had a constructive virtual meeting with 12 progressive members of Congress about how critical the Build Back Better Act and the bipartisan infrastructure bill are to his vision for ensuring our economy delivers for middle-class families, and not just those at the very top,” the statement from the White House reads.
“The group discussed their shared commitment to seizing this moment to make investing in families the heart of our economic growth and competitiveness strategy, paid for by repealing failed tax giveaways for the rich and big corporations that have been holding us back from reaching our full potential in the global economy,” it adds.
The White House also disclosed that according to the President, the infrastructure bill would make life easier for every American citizen and resident as it covers public transit, solutions to climate change, access to clean and safe drinking water, particularly in communities of color who are severely and directly affected.
“They also covered the immense benefits that the infrastructure bill will mean for communities all across this nation in terms of public transit, climate and clean energy leadership, ensuring safe drinking water for kids, and cleaning up pollution that disproportionately harms communities of color.Â
“There was agreement that what mattered most with respect to Build Back Better was following through on key priorities in a final legislative package to make a difference in real lives,” the statement concludes.
The President therefore promised to host, on Tuesday October 4, another virtual meeting with moderate House Democrats to lobby for the same national issues.
Other members of Congress who were in attendance at the the meeting are Rep. Pete Aguilar (CA-31), Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE-AL), Rep. Katherine Clark (MA-05), Rep. Debbie Dingell (MI-12), Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-07), Rep. Mondaire Jones (NY-17), Rep. Ro Khann (CA-17), Rep. Barbara Lee (CA-13), Rep. Joe Neguse (CO-02), Rep. Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Rep. Peter Welch (VT-AL)Â
