Northwest Bronx Democrats says…80th AD, our last race!

0

By Anthony Rivieccio, Founder

From our first race, Oliver Koppell in 2009, to our last race, Fernando Cabrera, last year for BRONX BP, our organization has been involved in over 25 local races the last two decades.

Time moves on. Our neighborhoods are moving on. Some in our organization are moving on. Myself & President Sheila Sanchez ( Milenia Marias on Facebook) are moving on to different lives. Sheila, in the hopes of improving her personal, professional and family life. Myself, semi retirement, and the thought of moving, after 35 years.

Why move? Like I said, our neighborhoods are moving on.

Been to Bedford Park lately? You can ride on the Concourse and see the beautiful St Philip Neri Church but just before you cross the bridge- don’t forget to pick up fruit at the bodega – either one- ON the bridge.

And yes you may not see the church at first. No, it’s not the bodegas in the way, it’s the new 8 story buildings- block – after block – after block, replacing private homes. The buildings, mostly Affordable housing with a” lottery housing” component.

Look over to Riverdale!. Right over Fieldstein, in the subrsran hills, you have a new homeless shelter. Come down the hill to Broadway, say hi to the second shelter, built by it seems the new Bronx Government partner, The Stagg Group.

And wait in the North East Bronx, Stagg goes after the old ” horsie ride” section on Pelham Parkway. Towards Jacobi Hospital, soon we will learn that housing is not for Jacobi patients or doctors– it is for Rikers Island patients. Go further up in Throggs Neck, housing is proposed at the Foodtown.

The Bronx has grown 13% over the last decade. The resources to accommodate these people have been nill. The result:

A deterioration of North Bronx Quality of Life.

The Northwest Bronx Democrats have announced their support for 80th AD candidate Phyllis Nastasio.

Phyllis or Tiz, as she likes to be known, is a well known community woman, especially on her East side of The District. Living in The Bronx for over 50 years, being a wife and parent, she regularly attends community organizational meetings and is a current member of CB 11. As people that know her , she has a heart of gold that’s filled with community love. She believes, like I do, as Rev Ruben Diaz Sr who recently endorsed her also believes, that now she’s wants to bring that love to the next level, Government. She has announced herself as a “ Quality of Life” candidate and as I am sure, on both sides of the district, we care about simple but important issues like Sanitation, Safety & Education.

The 80th Assembly District will soon have a vacancy due to the election of Nathalia Fernandez for 34th State Senate. The Bronx Democratic Party will soon pick her “ successor, who will now be a candidate.

“ Tiz  has lived in the 80th AD for 31 years and is a Bronxite for 57 years. There are indeed a few great community people in our district, but Tiz has decided to step up, and we support her” , says Norwood Captain Jason Johnson

President Sheila Sanchez, also known as Milenia Marias on social media , believes the district needs a quality of life candidate; “ I wish Nathalia luck as State Senator . Now she needs an Assembly partner. We need a quality of life community person. With Tiz-, the bar is set high”.

Because Ms Fernandez won her Senate seat, Bronx County gets to choose her ” successor” or in this case, candidate . Neighborhood whispers are names like: John Zaccaro, Chief of Staff for Rafael Salamanca & Ischia Bravo, District Manager, CB7.

Good people!. But in short, more of the same mucky muck— and quality of life gets worse

We ask that you give , who we affectly call ” Mother Tiz” serious consideration. Our North Bronx neighborhoods , need to go back to the quality of life of the last 20 years, not the 20 years prior to that

Our organization does that think of ourselves but the future. Our average residency, per club member, is 25 years, so we know the value of living in a safe, clean,  quality of life, small town neighborhood feel.  In the last decade, especially in The Bronx, from North to South, it is growing, and growing and growing.

We believe Tiz as a State Assemblyperson will not only represent our neighborhoods well, for the sake of our children but to go as far as, like the 1990s, gladly and sadly, make quality of life, an issue again toward hopefully the successful fight of once again revitalizing our neighborhoods again.
