New York City Mayor Eric Adams has announced today a ticker tape parade to honor the WNBA champion New York Liberty, celebrating the team’s historic first championship win in 28 seasons. In a festive nod to the victory, City Hall and other municipal buildings will be illuminated in seafoam on Monday night.
“From the start of the season to the very last game, the New York Liberty were focused on one singular objective: winning,” said Mayor Adams. “Tonight, they delivered a historic win — making our great city proud by becoming champions, the first in the franchise’s history. At a time when the rest of the country is finally acknowledging the endless talent in our WNBA, we are proud to have New York City bring home the trophy. To our WNBA champions, thank you for being a role model to our city, showcasing the values of grit, determination, and hard work.
Now, we can’t wait to celebrate off the court and throw you the parade you deserve down the Canyon of Heroes!”

The announcement follows a thrilling Game 5 victory over the Minnesota Lynx, where 2024 WNBA Finals MVP Jonquel Jones led the team with a stellar 17-point performance, sealing their championship win. The Liberty’s triumph caps off a record-breaking season in which they secured the overall number one seed in the WNBA Playoffs, finished with an impressive 32-8 record, and became the first team in league history to achieve back-to-back 30+ win seasons.
“This moment means everything — not only to the Liberty organization, but to our fans and all of New York City,” said Keia Clarke, CEO of the New York Liberty. “The Liberty have been chasing this dream since 1997 and after a strategic five-year turnaround, driven by ownership’s vision of rebuilding and regrowing this historic team, we are proud to get back to first and win this championship for New York. We would not be here without our fans whose passion has helped energize this team all season long. We take great pride in what we’ve built with our fans — something special that extends far beyond the basketball court — and this moment is just as much for them as it is for us.”
Details regarding the ticker tape parade will be released tomorrow, adding to the excitement of a city ready to celebrate its champions. In addition to City Hall, several other city buildings will also glow in seafoam light to honor the Liberty’s remarkable achievement, marking a new chapter in the franchise’s storied history.
