President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Karoline Leavitt, 27, as White House press secretary, making her the youngest in U.S. history to hold the role. Leavitt, a New Hampshire native, served as national press secretary for Trump’s 2024 campaign and currently works as a spokesperson for his transition team.
“Karoline Leavitt did a phenomenal job as the National Press Secretary on my Historic Campaign, and I am pleased to announce she will serve as White House Press Secretary,” Trump said in a statement. “Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator. I have the utmost confidence she will excel at the podium and help deliver our message to the American People as we Make America Great Again.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Leavitt expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you, President Trump, for believing in me. I am humbled and honoured. Let’s MAGA.”
As White House press secretary, Leavitt will serve as the administration’s primary communicator with the media. While past administrations held daily press briefings, Trump disrupted that norm during his first term, often preferring to deliver messages himself via rallies, media briefings, and social media.
When asked in August whether his new administration would hold regular press briefings, Trump responded, “I will give you total access… You’ll have more than you want.”
Leavitt, known for her quick wit and aggressive media appearances, worked in the White House press office during Trump’s first term, solidifying her reputation as a staunch defender of his agenda.
