Hezbollah has reportedly selected a burial site for its late Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, following his death in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs on September 27.
According to sources who spoke to Asharq Al-Awsat, Nasrallah will be laid to rest in a plot of land along the old road leading to Rafik Hariri International Airport, with plans to turn the site into a public shrine.
“Preparations are underway for the funeral of Nasrallah and the party’s Executive Council Chairman, Hashem Safieddine, in a joint public ceremony,” the sources revealed, adding that Safieddine will be buried in his hometown of Deir Qanoun in the Tyre district, honoring his personal wishes.
Nasrallah, a pivotal figure in Hezbollah’s history, led the group through decades of conflict with Israel, steering its evolution from a militant faction into a dominant political force in Lebanon with substantial Iranian support. “His legacy will endure through the resistance and in the hearts of his followers,” a senior Hezbollah official remarked.
Meanwhile, the sources also touched on recent security breaches involving exploding pagers within the organization. “Investigations are ongoing until those responsible for this breach are identified,” they confirmed, underscoring heightened internal vigilance amid growing tensions in the region.
As preparations for Nasrallah’s funeral proceed, his death marks a turning point for Hezbollah, leaving questions about its future leadership and its role in Lebanon’s complex political landscape.
