Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in stable condition following prostate removal surgery on Sunday, according to Hadassah Medical Centre.
The operation comes at a time of heightened tensions, with Israel engaged in its ongoing war against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip, following the unprecedented attack by Palestinian forces on October 7 last year.
“The prime minister has awakened from anesthesia and is in good condition. He has been transferred to the recovery unit and will remain under observation in the coming days,” the hospital confirmed in a statement.
Netanyahu’s office announced on Saturday that the surgery was necessitated by a urinary tract infection linked to benign prostate enlargement. This marks the latest in a series of health issues for the 74-year-old leader. In March, he underwent hernia surgery, and in July 2022, doctors implanted a pacemaker after a health scare.
Despite his health challenges, Netanyahu has continued to lead the nation through its most intense conflict in recent years.
