Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Beirut on Sunday, holding discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and deepening economic cooperation. The meeting underscored Algeria’s commitment to supporting Lebanon on the international stage, particularly in its role as the Arab representative to the UN Security Council.

According to a statement from the Algerian Foreign Ministry, the talks also addressed pressing regional issues, including the Palestinian situation. Both sides emphasized the need for continued coordination between their nations to navigate shared diplomatic challenges.

During the meeting, Attaf delivered a written message from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Aoun, reaffirming Algeria’s unwavering support for Lebanon’s efforts to restore institutional stability, security, and economic growth.

Attaf also met with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, offering congratulations on the formation of the new government and expressing Algeria’s readiness to provide assistance in tackling Lebanon’s economic and political challenges. “Algeria is prepared to provide all necessary support to Lebanon in facing the challenges of the coming phase,” Attaf said, as reported by Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).

Salam, in turn, expressed optimism about deepening Algerian-Lebanese relations, particularly by accelerating the activation of the Lebanese-Algerian High Joint Committee and the Algerian-Lebanese Business Council. “Strengthening these frameworks will have a positive impact on both economies,” he stated.

Attaf’s visit to Lebanon was part of a broader regional tour, which also included a stop in Syria, where he met with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Algeria has consistently extended support to Lebanon, including last summer’s shipment of 30,000 tons of fuel to help restart power stations amid the country’s severe energy crisis.
