Journalist Niloufar Hamedi’s legal case has been closed under “amnesty,” according to her lawyers, Parto Borhanpour and Hojjat Kermani.
Hamedi was arrested in September 2022 following her coverage of Mahsa Amini’s death.
Branch 15 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court initially sentenced her to 13 years in prison on charges of “cooperating with the U.S. government, assembly and collusion against national security, and propaganda against the Islamic Republic.”
An appeals court later acquitted her of “cooperation with a hostile foreign government.”
After 17 months in detention, Hamedi was temporarily released on bail.
Her lawyers announced on Tuesday that she has received amnesty for the remaining charges, and her case has been closed.
