The White House has announced new initiatives under President Donald J. Trump aimed at reducing the cost of in vitro fertilization (IVF) and expanding access to high-quality fertility care for American families.

In a statement, President Trump said, “We want to make it easier for all couples to have babies, raise children, and start the families they’ve always dreamed about.” The initiative seeks to make fertility treatments more affordable and accessible, particularly for couples struggling with infertility.

The administration’s plan includes promoting partnerships between public and private healthcare providers, supporting fertility research, and encouraging insurance coverage for assisted reproductive technologies. The measures are part of a broader family support agenda focused on strengthening the American family system.

Background on IVF

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a medical procedure used to assist individuals and couples struggling with infertility to conceive. The process involves retrieving mature eggs from a woman’s ovaries, fertilizing them with sperm in a laboratory, and then transferring the resulting embryos into the uterus.

Since the birth of the first “test-tube baby” in 1978, IVF has helped millions of families worldwide achieve pregnancy. However, the treatment remains costly—often ranging from $12,000 to $20,000 per cycle in the United States—placing it out of reach for many middle- and lower-income families.

Experts note that the Trump administration’s proposed reforms could make fertility care more equitable, giving more Americans the opportunity to pursue parenthood through modern reproductive technology.
