The Jewish Community Relations Council of New York (JCRC-NY) has condemned the violent protest that took place outside Park East Synagogue on Wednesday night, describing the incident as a direct threat to the safety of the Jewish community.
In a statement issued by JCRC-NY CEO Mark Treyger, the organization denounced the demonstrators’ actions, which included violent rhetoric and antisemitic insults hurled in front of a crowded synagogue. Treyger stressed that there is nothing unlawful—locally or internationally—about Jewish worshippers gathering in a synagogue or immigrating to Israel.
“Last night’s demonstration outside of Park East Synagogue was reprehensible,” Treyger said. “Using violent rhetoric and hurling antisemitic insults in front of a crowded synagogue was a direct threat to our community’s safety.”
Treyger confirmed that JCRC-NY has contacted city officials regarding the incident and expressed confidence that the New York Police Department will thoroughly investigate the matter. He emphasized that the right to worship safely must be upheld for all New Yorkers, including the Jewish community.
“No one should ever have to fear entering or leaving their house of worship,” he added. “We stand with the Park East community and with all New Yorkers who reject hate.”
The organization reiterated its commitment to combating antisemitism and ensuring that religious communities across New York are protected.
