American rapper Nicki Minaj has issued a powerful call for urgent international action to protect Christians facing violent persecution in Nigeria. Speaking at an event convened to highlight rising religious intolerance, Minaj delivered an emotional address, condemning attacks on worshippers and urging world leaders to act.

Minaj began by thanking Ambassador Mike Waltz for the invitation, describing it as “an honor to stand on this stage… to shine a spotlight on the deadly threat faced by thousands of Christians in Nigeria.”

She also commended former U.S. President Donald Trump for raising global attention to the crisis.

“I would like to thank President Trump for prioritizing this issue and for his leadership on the global stage in calling for urgent action to defend Christians in Nigeria, to combat extremism, and to bring a stop to violence against those who simply want to exercise their natural right to freedom of religion or belief,” she said.

Minaj reflected on her upbringing in New York, expressing gratitude for a society where people can freely practice their faith. She stressed that religious freedom is a universal right, not dependent on shared beliefs.

“We don’t have to share the same beliefs in order for us to respect each other… That shouldn’t make one person feel less safe than anyone in any room,” she added.

Drawing from her global music career, she spoke about witnessing humanity’s shared emotional connection to art, regardless of culture or religion. She used the moment to highlight the suffering of Christian communities in Nigeria, where violent attacks, displacement, and destruction of churches have become increasingly frequent.

“In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed. Churches have been burned. Families torn apart. And entire communities live in fear simply because of how they pray,” Minaj lamented, noting that the crisis mirrors rising religious persecution in many other countries.

She emphasized that solidarity, not division, must guide the response: “Protecting Christians in Nigeria is not about taking sides or dividing people. It is about uniting humanity.”

Minaj praised peace builders, interfaith leaders, and advocates working to confront intolerance and promote understanding. She said their courage inspires her commitment to stand against injustice globally.

She closed by thanking her fanbase—the “Barbz”—and clarified that her advocacy is rooted in principle, not politics. “This isn’t about taking sides. This is about standing up in the face of injustice… I will care if anyone anywhere is being persecuted for their beliefs,” she declared.

Minaj expressed hope that the gathering would spark deeper cooperation and renewed momentum toward ensuring all people, in Nigeria and beyond, can “believe, worship, and live in peace.”
