Trump Receives Inaugural FIFA Peace Prize at World Cup Draw in Washington

U.S. President Donald Trump was on Friday presented with the first-ever FIFA Peace Prize during the World Cup draw ceremony held at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who handed over the award onstage, said Trump was selected “in recognition of his exceptional and extraordinary actions to promote peace and unity around the world.” Infantino presented him with a trophy, medal and certificate, describing the honour as a celebration of individuals dedicated to fostering global harmony. “This is your prize, this is your peace prize,” he said.
According to FIFA, the newly created prize is intended for “individuals who help unite people in peace through unwavering commitment and special actions.”
In his acceptance speech, Trump described the recognition as “one of the great honours of my life.” He went on to highlight what he claimed were major global conflicts averted or resolved during his administration, citing the Democratic Republic of Congo as an example and referencing tensions between India and Pakistan.
The event formed part of activities marking the official draw for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
