OIC Secretary General Taha Meets Humanitarian Funds Chairman, Calls for Stronger Response to Crisis-Hit Nations

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), His Excellency M. Hissein Brahim Taha, on February 9, 2026, held a meeting with His Excellency Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Humanitarian Funds, at the OIC Secretariat General in Jeddah.
The high-level engagement, which included members of the accompanying delegation, focused on the humanitarian situation in countries affected by crises and explored ways to intensify and better coordinate relief efforts to support vulnerable populations.

During the discussion, both leaders underscored the need for stronger collaboration to enhance humanitarian response mechanisms and ensure timely assistance to affected communities across member states and beyond.
They also examined ongoing efforts to operationalize the Humanitarian Funds Organization Statutes, seen as a key framework for strengthening humanitarian interventions within the OIC structure.
Speaking at the meeting, the Secretary General emphasized the urgent need for collective commitment from member countries.
“We must intensify and coordinate our efforts to help affected people and strengthen humanitarian response in crisis-hit countries,” Taha said.
He further called on member states to support the institutional framework that would empower humanitarian operations.
“I call on Member States to sign and ratify the Humanitarian Funds Organization Statutes to enable the funds to fulfill their role in supporting humanitarian action and strengthening the efforts of the Organization in this field,” he added.
The meeting reaffirmed the OIC’s commitment to enhancing its humanitarian mission and strengthening cooperation among member states to address growing global challenges affecting vulnerable populations.
