Ghanaian Battalion Hit by Missile Attack, Two Soldiers Critically Injured

The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed that a Ghanaian battalion operating in Southern Lebanon under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) came under missile attack amid the ongoing hostilities between the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and Hezbollah.

In a statement issued on March 6, 2026, by the Department of Public Relations at the General Headquarters in Burma Camp, Accra, the military disclosed that the attack occurred at the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters between 1745 and 1752 hours local time.

According to the statement, two Ghanaian soldiers were critically injured in the incident, while another personnel suffered trauma. The Officers’ Mess facility at the battalion base was also struck and completely burnt.

“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to inform the general public that as a fallout of the current on-going IDF and Hezbollah exchanges in Southern Lebanon, the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters in UNIFIL came under two missile attacks between 1745 and 1752 hours local time today,” the statement read.

The military added that the injured soldiers are currently receiving treatment at a Level One Medical Bunker and are reported to be in stable condition.

“Two soldiers are critically injured, while one other has been traumatised. Additionally, the Officers’ Mess facility also got hit and has been burnt down completely. The injured are receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and are currently stable while arrangements are underway for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital,” the statement added.

The Ghana Armed Forces assured the public that troops deployed in the area remain safe and have taken shelter in underground bunkers amid the fragile security situation.

“The Ghana Armed Forces assures the general public to remain calm amidst the fragile situation as troops are currently safe in underground bunkers,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has protested the incident at the United Nations headquarters in New York and called on parties involved in the conflict to respect their obligations regarding the safety of peacekeepers operating in the region.

The statement was signed by Veronica Adzo Arhin, Captain in the Ghana Navy and Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Armed Forces.
