The Jewish & Muslim Friendship Group Netherlands has issued a public declaration of solidarity with the Jewish community following recent attacks targeting Jewish institutions in the Netherlands.

In a statement released this week, the organization condemned reported attacks on a Jewish school in Amsterdam and a synagogue in Rotterdam, describing the incidents as assaults on the country’s long-standing values of tolerance, respect, and peaceful coexistence.

The interfaith group emphasized that such acts of violence threaten not only specific communities but also the broader principles that underpin Dutch society.
“Such attacks strike at the heart of the values that have long characterized the Netherlands,” the group said in the declaration.

Religious Teachings Emphasize Protection of Worship Sites

In its statement, the organization drew upon both Islamic and Jewish religious traditions to underscore the importance of safeguarding houses of worship.

The group cited a verse from the Qur’an (Surah Al-Hajj 22:40), which highlights the protection of monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques where the name of God is remembered.

The declaration also referenced the Hebrew Bible, citing the words of the Prophet Isaiah (56:7): “For my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.”

According to the statement, places of worship represent shared values of peace, refuge, and spiritual dignity for all communities.

Call for Abrahamic Solidarity

The organization noted that the declaration was issued during the final sacred days of Ramadan, including the night known as Laylat al‑Qadr, which Muslims consider the holiest night of the year.

In that context, the group urged Muslims to demonstrate solidarity with Jewish neighbors during what it described as a difficult period for the Jewish community.
The statement called for what it termed “Abrahamic solidarity,” encouraging cooperation between Muslims and Jews in defending religious freedom and community safety.

Standing Together Against Hatred

Concluding its declaration, the Jewish and Muslim coalition stressed that both communities must stand together against intimidation, violence, and hatred.

“As Jews and Muslims, we stand shoulder to shoulder against hatred and intimidation,” the statement read, calling on communities to protect houses of worship, schools, and neighborhoods while promoting peace, understanding, and justice.

Interfaith advocates say the declaration reflects a growing effort among Jewish and Muslim leaders in Europe to strengthen dialogue and cooperation in the face of rising religious tensions and security concerns.
