New York City — A recent Facebook poll has revealed that a majority of engaged New Yorkers believe Mayor Eric Adams is the strongest candidate to face off against Assemblymember Zohran Kwame Mamdani in the November mayoral election.
The informal poll, conducted on a popular civic discussion page, drew approximately 1,300 participants. The results show Adams capturing 60% of the vote, with Republican Curtis Sliwa coming in second with 35%, and former Governor Andrew Cuomo trailing at just 4%. No other candidate received significant support.
Facebook Poll Results
Candidate | Votes | Percentage |
---|---|---|
Eric Adams | 825 | 60% |
Curtis Sliwa | 476 | 35% |
Andrew Cuomo | 86 | 4% |
Other/Undecided | 0 | 0% |
Total respondents: ~1,300 (Facebook poll, conducted June 30 – July 6, 2025) |
While unscientific and limited to self-selected social media users, the poll underscores a growing perception that Adams remains the most electable choice for those concerned about the rising influence of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)-aligned candidates like Mamdani.
Voters Cite Experience, Stability, and Electability
Poll participants cited Adams’ leadership experience and steady hand through crisis as key reasons for their support. Others expressed concern about progressive candidates’ policy positions on law enforcement, Israel, and public order.
“Adams is our best bet,” wrote Joan Sullivan-Thomas. “He inherited a mess and has worked hard to turn things around. I like Sliwa, but Adams is our best shot.”
Bronx community leader Sheikh Musa Drammeh called the results “the best and most accurate poll so far,” adding, “Numbers don’t lie. #DSAFreeCity.”
“Adams wasn’t a great mayor, but he wasn’t a bad one either,” said P. Stuart Cohen. “He’s our best hope to defeat the anti-police, anti-Israel socialist candidate. Cuomo and Adams should join forces.”
Sliwa Support Strong, But Path to Victory Unclear
Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels and Republican mayoral candidate, performed strongly in the poll, winning more than a third of the votes. Still, even supporters acknowledged the limitations of a GOP campaign in a city dominated by Democratic voters.
“Sliwa won’t win,” said Donna Midolo Boliak. “We need to unite around Adams. If Mamdani wins, we won’t recognize our city.”
Former Governor Andrew Cuomo, once one of the most powerful Democrats in the state, continues to struggle politically. With just 4% support, the poll suggests little appetite among voters for his return to public office, at least at this stage.
The Bigger Picture
The poll was shared with the intent of gauging public sentiment on who voters believe could most effectively prevent a Mamdani-led progressive administration. The poll’s organizer concludes that future polls will be posted to “take the temperature of the voting waters.”
Though unofficial, the results suggest that moderate and centrist New Yorkers remain wary of a left-wing shift at City Hall, and may coalesce around Mayor Adams as the most viable option to maintain political balance.
With formal campaigning set to intensify in the coming weeks, the question now becomes whether early online momentum for Adams can translate into a broad-based coalition at the ballot box.
