UFC champion, McGregor, announces retirement from sports
Conor McGregor, a mixed martial arts fighter and former two-weight champion, has announced his retirement from the sports.
He made the announcement on Sunday June 7, 2020, via social media.
Announcing his quit from the sport, McGregor tweeted, “Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting.”
“Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been! Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my World title wins! Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you! Whatever you desire it’s yours,” it added.
This is one of the several moments when the mixed martial arts champion would announce his retirements and return to the sport at some point later.
In one of his tweets in 2016 announcing his retirement, McGregor said, “I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese. Catch ya’s later.”
Also, unsurprisingly, in 2019, he announced his retirement but returned to the sport early this year and had a fight in Las Vegas, Nevada against the American mixed martial artist, Donald Anthony Cerrone popularly known as “Cowboy”.
McGregor, who defeated cowboy in a technical knockout, is one of the best fighters in the UFC.
As a mixed martial artist in his debut boxing match with Floyd Mayweather back in 2017 he was beaten, and this cost him his featherweight and lightweight belts.
McGregor is retiring ranked 8th on the Ultimate Fighting Championship men’s pound-to-pound, 4th in the UFC lightweight and 15 in the Walteweight rankings.
