The United States President, Donald Trump, has announced that Israel and the United Arab Emirates have reached an agreement to normalize their diplomatic relations.

While reacting to the agreement on Thursday August 13, 2020, Trump described the deal as a great day for peace.

The US President stated that “After 49 years, Israel and the United Arab Emirates will fully normalize their diplomatic relations.”

Israel’s ambassador to Washington, Ron Dermer, also described the accord as a “great day for peace.”

“A great day for peace! Israel commends the courage of MBZ for the historic decision of the UAE to join Egypt (1979) and Jordan (1994) in making peace with Israel.

“Israel deeply appreciates all @POTUS Trump has done to make this breakthrough possible. More to come!,” he said.

The United Arab Emirates and Israel agreed to establish full diplomatic ties on Thursday in order to halt the annexation of occupied land sought by the Palestinians for their future state.
