REFELA calls for end to cyber bullying, incitement against Gambian women
The Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa (REFELA), which brings together women members of political bodies responsible for the governance of African cities and regional authorities, has condemned cyber bullying against Gambian women.
Why expressing her displeasure about some negative activities targeting women in Gambia, REFELA President, Malick Lowe, called for an end to such a reprehensible act.
“As the President of REFELA, The Gambia National Chapter, it has come to my notice that some parties involved in spewing garbage, incitement, bigotry, inflammatory remarks about women or promoting discord amongst the citizenry and attempting to tarnish the image of individuals who disagree on pertinent issue(s) because of perspective, orientation, thinking or reasoning where it is not happening.
“Time and time again, we have been reading from social media platforms inappropriate utterances going wild and viral about women and such a pattern is unhealthy and unfit for consumption by our respective societies,” Lowe wrote on her Facebook page.
She added that, “We have to understand that women are partners in development and they are paramount in all pillars of democracy.
“We are vehemently saying No2CyberBullying which can instigate fear or intimidation amongst women who have been and continue to coexist in peace and harmony.”
