Shakina Chinedu, a recipient of the prestigious Daylight Africa award in 2023, has been allegedly murdered in The Gambia.

The grim discovery was made by authorities on February 16, 2024, when Chinedu’s lifeless body was found in an incomplete building, casting a shadow of mystery over the circumstances surrounding her untimely demise.

The Kunkujang Police Station, alerted to Chinedu’s disappearance on February 15, initially launched an investigation. However, the revelation of her lifeless body has intensified the inquiry, with law enforcement and the community alike grappling for answers.

Chinedu, a British-trained lawyer and consultant, had relocated from the UK to The Gambia in 2016, dedicating her efforts to legal advice, building consultancy, and business guidance through her consultancy firm, Nubian L Consultants. She had been a vocal advocate for the Afrikan Diaspora Returnee Association, leading campaigns for fast-tracked citizenship.

The focus of the investigation now centers on the incomplete compound where Chinedu’s body was discovered.

Authorities have remained tight-lipped about specific details but have underscored the unusual nature of the finding, adding complexity to the ongoing probe.

Chinedu’s Daylight Africa award in 2023 had celebrated her outstanding contributions to Africa, as she expressed her gratitude, stating, “I am writing to formally thank you and Daylight Afrika for the beautiful award bestowed upon me for my contributions in Gambia. I was shocked and humbled by the wonderful award and thoughts behind it. I am proudly hanging it in my office so that all can see.

“Once again, thank you for the award and look forward to our continued projects in Afrika. Our continent, our business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
