In preparation for the fourth Test against India in Ranchi, England has made significant changes to its lineup, introducing fast bowler Ollie Robinson and spinner Shoaib Bashir. Robinson, 30, returns to the squad after his last appearance during the third Ashes Test in July, while Bashir, 20, secures his place following his Test debut in the second match against India.

These selections come as replacements for Mark Wood and Rehan Ahmed, respectively. Wood, who participated in two of the India Tests, makes way for Robinson, whereas Bashir takes over from Ahmed, who faced a visa delay earlier in the series.

Following a challenging 434-run defeat in the third Test, England currently trails India 2-1 in the five-match series. With the upcoming match expected to feature a spin-friendly pitch in Ranchi, England captain Ben Stokes has expressed confidence in Bashir’s abilities as a tall off-spinner. Stokes emphasizes the importance of utilizing such conditions to their advantage, particularly noting Bashir’s high release point and ability to generate extra bounce.

In light of the pitch conditions and recent performance setbacks, England’s team dynamics are under scrutiny. Stokes, who initially joined the series as a batsman following knee surgery, remains non-committal about his potential return to bowling in Ranchi. Meanwhile, veteran pace bowler James Anderson, on the verge of reaching 700 Test wickets, is anticipated to play a crucial role despite returning with modest figures from the previous match.

England’s batting lineup, featuring struggling senior players Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root, faces increasing pressure to deliver in the final two Tests. Bairstow, set to mark his 99th Test appearance, has endured a challenging series, managing just 102 runs thus far. Stokes, however, remains optimistic about Bairstow’s contribution, emphasizing his past achievements and integral role within the team.

With the stage set for the crucial fourth Test, England’s XI comprises a blend of experience and fresh talent. The lineup includes Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes (captain), Ben Foakes, Ollie Robinson, James Anderson, Shoaib Bashir, and Tom Hartley. As the teams gear up for the Ranchi showdown, anticipation mounts for a fiercely contested battle between England and India.
