National Black Church Initiative Raises the Alert Level to Purple
Washington, DC – The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI), a faith-based coalition of 34,000 along with additional 116,000 black churches comprised of 15 denominations and 25.7 million African American Christians have raised the alert level to purple. This is the highest alert level that has been designed by the National Black Church Initiative to alert its churches, members and others that an imminent another attack on the church is possible. NBCI will keep the alert level raised to purple for the next 30 days and gradually lower the alert level depending on terrorist activities around the world. We continue to work with law enforcement around the country.
Rev. Anthony Evans, President of the National Black Church Initiative says, “ The attack in Sri Lanka was not only horrific and should be taken as a sign by all religious people that evil is real. However, the terrorists will begin to test our faith in Christ Jesus, and our religious commitment as Christians. We are calling for prayer and vigilance against this evil and devilish enemy. This is shameful that the Church is in this position. But the Church must not stand still but take action to protect themselves.”
The Sri Lanka and Christchurch incidents-where over 420 people of faith died underscores that religious people are now the target of extreme religious elements across the world. The raising of the alert level to purple highlights that our members, as well as all religious leaders, must be vigilant and take extraordinary care to take the safety of the congregations when they gather for service.
