REFELA President Mayor Lowe launches initiative to provide national ID cards for 500k women in Gambia

Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe, the President of REFELA, The Gambia National Chapter has launched Operation 500K National Identification Cards Initiative for women in Gambia.

This was disclosed while unveiling the laudable initiative on Saturday November 28, 2020, during a REFELA annual general meeting in Jarra Soma – Lower River Region.

According to the REFELA President, the initiative is aimed at supporting 500K Gambian women who have all the required documents to get a National ID card but cannot afford the cost attached.

Lowe therefore solicited the support of international bodies and non-governmental organisations in order to achieve her mission.

She also dwelled on the importance of women having the National ID Card which can help them to acquire their voters card and other important National documents likewise to be used as identification in many other transactions eg Business/Commercial transactions.

She further urged The Gambian women to prepare their required documents and contact their Local Administrative Authorities for on-ward processing of their National ID cards as soon as possible.

“One of the main aims of this initiative is to encourage the women of the Gambia to go out in their numbers to exercise their voting rights,” Lowe said.

“REFELA will be in contact with the local government authorities for on-ward processing. And all cost will be paid directly to the Department of Immigration,” she added.
