Beverly Lindsay-Johnson emerges AAMA Executive Director

AAMA has appointed Beverly Lindsay-Johnson as it’s DC-based Executive Director.

While congratulating Lindsay-Johnson on his Facebook page on Tuesday December 15, 2020, Mark Naison, a New Yorker, stated that “Beverly is a proud product of the Bronx, and the organizer of the first ever Bronx African American History Project Concert at Fordham ( in 2004).”

“The African American Music Association (AAMA) is excited to announce Emmy Award Winning Producer/Director and Entertainment Consultant Beverly Lindsay-Johnson as the new Executive Director of the DC-based nonprofit organization. She will take office on January 4, 2021,” Naison wrote on her Facebook page.

He added that Mrs. Lindsay-Johnson is a previous recipient of the AAMA’s “Outstanding Community Service Award.”

“Her commitment to the arts in Washington, DC and beyond makes her the ideal person to lead the organization. When asked about her appointment,” he said.

“I am pleased to join the African American Music Association in its mission to preserve, protect, promote and to foster the continued development of African American music and the legacy of those who compose, record and perform the music.

“It’s important for me to develop programming and public outreach projects which acknowledge African American cultural music traditions in all genres to include gospel, blues, jazz, rhythm and blues, hip-hop and go-go, on both a local and national level,” Naison wrote, quoting Mrs. Lindsay-Johnson.
