Nigerian lawmaker, Alli Adeyemi, formally presents 200 forms to UTME candidates

A Nigerian lawmaker, Hon. Alli Adeyemi Taofeeq, who represents Mushin Federal Constituency 1 in the House of Representatives, has presented 200 free forms to candidates preparing for the 2021 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.

While presenting the forms to the beneficiaries at his constituency office on Monday June 14, 2021, the lawmaker stated that quality education is the right of every candidate.

“It has always been a great moment for me to see that our young ones are helped to achieve their future desires. This is premised on the fact that it is their inalienable right to have qualitative education,” Alli said.

He added that he had earlier promised to work on the report received from the screening committee tasked with the selection of qualified candidates.

“It has become a norm for me to purchase Jamb forms for intending university students annually. Last year (2020), 400 forms were purchased and distributed, through which many of the beneficiaries secured admission to various tertiary institutions”.

“Today’s presentation is not a speech-making event, rather, we are here to encourage our young ones, pray for them and enlighten them,” the lawmaker stated.

“Our people must be aware that as a lawmaker, we are not in contention with the government on the provision of projects. Ours is to facilitate developmental projects from the Federal to compliments the government at the local level.”

The lawmaker, who recently celebrated his two years in office, explained he had executed numerous education projects which included the provision of school bags, textbooks and other learning-enhancing materials to schools.

“Apart from that, I have been up and doing in discharging my primary responsibility at the National Assembly. I have also been able to facilitate many capacity-building and developmental projects under my education support initiatives.

“My projects included provisions of two well-equipped ICT centres at Ilupeju Junior Grammar school and Ilupeju Senior Secondary school.

“Others were the provision of educational materials to all 28 public primary schools within my constituency. Not only that, I purchased school buses, some of which were destroyed during the #Endsars protest and before this year ends we shall surely provide new replacements,” he stated.

The House of Rep member, therefore, announced that candidates who score 250 and above will receive their education support fund.

“This is in tandem with one of the recommendations of the committee to encourage reading culture among our youth,” he added.

He, therefore, appreciated the committee for working diligently within the time frame.

“I sincerely commend all the members of the screening committee for the screening exercise, the career and orientation on courses and of course the free computer-based test training provided are highly acknowledged and appreciated,” he stated.

He said very soon, another set of 100 youth will be trained, equipped and funded under another skill acquisition program.

Alli also disclosed that before the end of this year, new sickbays will be constructed in some primary schools.

He stressed that solar-powered street lights would be facilitated, as well as an empowerment program for the widows.

“Interestingly, in the last two years, traders and artisans have benefited from our economy support initiative. Many senior citizens have benefited from the “Feeding the Elderly initiative.”

“Many youth within the constituency equally benefited from the first phase of our skills acquisition scheme last year,” Alli concluded.
