A Shattered Dream by Harinder Cheema
Environmental hopes expressed by poet of India Harinder Cheema.
I grew with a dream in my eyes
Of a green Earth and clear blue skies
Where I would roam safe and free
Sing like a bird, buzz like a bee
But the sounds of Nature I cannot hear
There is pollution and noise every where
There is cutting of trees, big and small
Is it their fall, or is it our fall?
I thought Earth would be a lovely place
But the man has changed it’s original face
Brought dead animals into the living rooms
Their heads, their skins, their claws, their tails
Decorating our walls, hanging from nails
Which we shamelessly display
And feel proud at this slay
Remember, we have taken birth
As superior beings on this Earth
We forget that we are fortunate
We think that we are mortals great
It’s time we stopped thinking this way
Please give it a thought before it’s too late
I will raise my voice, I will shout and scream
As I don’t want to live with a shattered dream.
