NYC District Council of Carpenters endorse Jelanie DeShong for NYS Assembly
Brooklyn, NY– Today, the New York City District Council of Carpenters has endorsed Jelanie DeShong for NYS Assembly, joining Congresswoman Yvette Clarke, State Senator Zellnor Myrie, former Assemblymember Diana Ricarhdson, and Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Renyoso. DeShong, who grew up in Flatbush and recently worked for Governor Kathy Hochul and SUNY Downstate Hospital kicked off his campaign for NYS Assembly in Brooklyn’s 43rd District two weeks ago.The New York City District Council of Carpenters functions as the voice for 20,000 of New York City’s most dedicated and skilled Carpenters, Millwrights, Dockbuilders, Timbermen, Cabinetmakers, Floorcoverers and Industrial Workers; and is dedicated to guarantee that every worker has rights in the workplace, a fair wage, a healthy family and hope for the future. “Now more than ever, we need elected officials with guts to lead, the experience to get things done, and who will always put their community first. And when I’m in Albany, they’ll have a partner fighting for them tooth and nail.” ABOUT JELANIEA lifelong public servant and Brooklynite, Jelanie DeShong began his career as an Intern for then-New York City Councilman Jumaane Williams and later served as Legislative Aide to New York City Councilman David Greenfield, before becoming Director of Community Engagement and Strategic Advisor for then-Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul, where he honed his skills working on legislation, land-use policy, and city and state finances.After being appointed as Director of Government Relations at The State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Hospital, Jelanie oversaw the Office of Government and Community Relations in the largest healthcare server of more than one million Brooklynites, eventually earning recognition for his work during the pandemic as one of eight Brooklynites who came to the rescue in New York’s darkest hours. |
