NYPD: Man who went on a stabbing spree in Queens faces attempted murder charges
A man has been arrested and remains in custody at the 106th Precinct after allegedly stabbing two people in Queens during unprovoked attacks, police said.
According to officials, the suspect faces a slew of charges, including attempted murder in the second degree.
“The guy was doing just what I was doing,” Matthew Sullivan, a customer, said. “He was pumping gas, I heard and someone ran over. And you get a lot of that these days and it’s wacky.”
“That is concerning because I usually come out at night to get like water or food,” Carlos Rodriguez, a customer, said.
Police said the first stabbing happened at just after 5 p.m. Tuesday evening when 40-year-old Feruz Radjabov stabbed a 25-year-old man in the back at the Mobil Gas station on North Conduit Avenue and Cohancy Street in Queens.
The man was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK, officials said.
A short while later, police said Radjabov went to the Aqueduct North Conduit subway station next to the gas station and stabbed a 67-year-old man on the northbound A train platform in the neck.
That man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, according to police.
Police said the suspect was captured and later charged Tuesday before midnight.
“It’s a small community,” Monica Rarick, a customer, said. “We’re in Ozone Park so I don’t feel that people should be weary of their lives every day, especially an elderly man that’s 60 plus.”
Police said both attacks appear to be unprovoked, and the suspect is unhoused.
“It’s always a concern for your safety around here,” Clayon Williams, a Queens resident, said.
“For a person who worked in the subway for 28 years, 10 [p.m.] to 6 [a.m.], I’ve seen a lot of stuff,” Sullivan said. “But it has gotten worse. And it’s crazy the way people just think it’s alright to stab people.”
According to officials, besides attempted murder in the second degree, other charges the suspect faces include assault in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, trespassing and harassment.
