The State University of New York (SUNY) Global Health Institute (GHI) and the New York State Department of Health’s Wadsworth Center announced a groundbreaking partnership to create the New York State Global Health Interface Platform.

This alliance will not only enhance the state’s ability to respond to global health challenges but also open doors for cutting-edge research and workforce training for future public health professionals.

“The new collaboration with Wadsworth Center will create novel research opportunities for faculty at UB and other GHI campuses and add to the innovation that can be proposed in grant applications,” said Gene Morse, PharmD, co-director of SUNY GHI and director of the Center for Integrated Global Biomedical Sciences (CIGBS) at the University at Buffalo (UB). He also emphasized the added value for students, noting that they “will benefit by engaging in research programs that have local and global applications.”

The Wadsworth Center, a leader in public health research and translational science, will serve as the core scientific unit for this collaboration. Already known for its role in protecting New Yorkers’ health through laboratory research, analysis, and educational programs, the center will now connect its expertise with SUNY’s vast public health network.

“This partnership brings together the country’s premier public health laboratory with our nation’s largest public university system and its global partner countries,” said New York State Health Commissioner James McDonald. “By connecting with UB’s public health network across the world, we can further prepare for and prevent potential risks to public health before they reach New York State.”

The innovative Global Health Interface Platform will foster interaction between public health laboratories and SUNY-GHI centers, facilitating groundbreaking research, education, and communication initiatives. This collaboration will also create new opportunities for faculty and students at UB and other GHI campuses to engage with the state’s public health initiatives, further integrating global insights into local public health challenges.
