Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Nigeria, Brazil, and Guyana from November 16, 2024, to strengthen bilateral ties and engage in key international summits, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced.
Modi’s first stop will be Nigeria, where he will arrive on November 16 at the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Nigeria in 17 years. “During this visit, I look forward to reviewing our strategic partnership with Nigeria and exploring ways to further enhance our collaboration in key sectors like energy, defense, and economic cooperation,” Modi said in a statement. He will also meet with the Indian community in Nigeria, highlighting the deep cultural and economic ties between the two nations.
From November 18-19, Modi will attend the G20 Summit in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, hosted by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. India, as part of the G20 Troika, has been actively contributing to the summit discussions. “At the G20 Summit, I will present India’s perspective on global issues such as climate change, economic recovery, and multilateral cooperation,” Modi said ahead of the event. On the sidelines, Modi is expected to meet various global leaders to address pressing international issues.
Modi’s final stop will be Guyana, from November 19-21, where he will become the first Indian Prime Minister to visit since 1968. At the invitation of President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, Modi will hold talks with the Guyanese leadership, address the Parliament, and engage with the Indian diaspora. “I am honored to visit Guyana and strengthen our long-standing ties. This visit will further our cooperation with the Caribbean region and promote mutual prosperity,” Modi remarked. He will also participate in the Second CARICOM-India Summit, further strengthening India’s ties with the Caribbean region.
This trip underscores India’s growing global influence and commitment to fostering stronger diplomatic relations with key nations across the world. “Through this visit, we are reinforcing India’s role as a global leader and a responsible partner in fostering peace, stability, and development,” said Modi.
