Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has called for renewed U.S.–Nigeria cooperation, urging Washington to re-engage anchor states in Africa with a focus on Nigeria’s strategic potential.

Speaking at a high-level roundtable convened by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Tuggar stressed the importance of strengthening investment ties between both nations.

According to a statement from his aide, the meeting brought together Vice President Kashim Shettima and senior executives of leading U.S. firms to explore investment opportunities in Nigeria’s priority sectors, including energy, agriculture, technology, and finance.

Tuggar noted that Nigeria’s population, abundant resources, and continental reach make it a natural destination for U.S. partnerships and investments. He emphasized that deeper collaboration would not only lower costs but also provide access to a vast pool of skilled talent while integrating millions of informal businesses into the formal economy.
