Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is set to reach a major career milestone as he takes charge of his 1,000th managerial game when City host Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

The landmark fixture pits two of England’s biggest sides against each other in what promises to be a crucial encounter in the Premier League title race.

City currently sit third on the table with 22 points and are unbeaten in their last eight matches, while defending champions Liverpool occupy sixth place with 18 points.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated clash, Guardiola paid tribute to Liverpool’s consistency and acknowledged the importance of the game.

“Liverpool are the reigning champions, and every match against them is a real test of where we are as a team,” the City boss said. “Reaching 1,000 games as a manager is special, but what matters most is helping my team perform at their best.”

Guardiola, who began his managerial career with Barcelona in 2008 before stints at Bayern Munich and Manchester City, has amassed an illustrious record that includes multiple league titles and Champions League trophies.

Sunday’s encounter will not only celebrate his longevity and success in management but could also play a defining role in shaping the early course of the Premier League season.
