North Korean leader unveils, ‘drives’ new battle tank
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un took center stage in a display of military prowess as he personally drove a “new-type main battle tank” during military training exercises, according to state media reports on Thursday. This spectacle unfolded amidst ongoing joint drills between Seoul and Washington aimed at enhancing deterrence capabilities.
Clad in a black leather jacket, Kim Jong Un oversaw the training exercises, saluting troops outfitted in camouflage uniforms. The official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) released images depicting the leader observing live-fire “training march” exercises from a field command post, flanked by high-ranking generals.
The KCNA report detailed Kim’s hands-on involvement, stating that he “mounted a new-type main battle tank, seized the control lever and drove the tank himself” after reviewing tank crews. This demonstration of military hardware coincided with the final day of the annual Freedom Shield exercises, a collaborative effort between Seoul and Washington encompassing missile interception drills and air assault operations.
