Finland observed a day of mourning on Wednesday as flags across the nation flew at half-mast to honor the tragic loss of a 12-year-old student in a school shooting. The devastating incident, perpetrated by a classmate, also left two others critically injured, prompting a nationwide call for grief and solidarity.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a 12-year-old Finnish boy unleashed gunfire within his school premises located in Vantaa, the country’s fourth-largest city. Despite the harrowing event, the school remained operational on Wednesday, albeit with adjusted schedules, as authorities sought to provide support to students and faculty grappling with the aftermath.

Deputy Mayor of Vantaa, Katri Kalske, confirmed that measures were in place to offer extensive assistance throughout the day, with plans to address the shooting in an appropriate manner across all educational institutions within the city.

Reports indicate that the perpetrator, donning a mask and noise-canceling headphones, carried out the attack before promptly fleeing the scene. Tragically, a 12-year-old Finnish boy lost his life in the assault, while the suspect was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement without further incident.
