Monalisa Parida writes of female determination to succeed against the odds of patriarchy

village

Some loved her for veracity,

Some hated her for her candour.

Neither a poet, nor a writer

She is just a simple girl

Who thinks enormously

And discerns too much.

Now she will do everything that they did not like,

Did they forget what they used to say:

She is a girl

She can’t do anything

And always stay in the corner of house under cover.

Now she will just live for herself

She will never ask them ever for help

Now she can handle her tears herself.

If anyone will ask about her family

Don’t worry she will never tell them their name

Now her only dream is to get name and fame.
