Assembly Speaker Heastie, Senator Bailey, Congressman Bowman to secure Covid-19 vaccines for Bronx
Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, State Senator Jamaal T. Bailey, Congressman Jamaal Bowman and City Councilman Kevin C. Riley have announced critical COVID-19 vaccination site for the Northecast
While disclosing this on Wednesday March 17, 2021, Speaker Heastie stated that the vaccination site wil open at Bay Eden Center on Friday.
“This vaccination site will provide lifesaving vaccines right here in our own community. The more people
who receive these vaccines, wear masks and practice the recommended hygienic protocols, the sooner we can get back to work, our kids can get back to school, and we ean get back to normal.
“I would like to thank my colleagues in government for their advocacy and hard work to get this critical site up and running,” said Heastie.
He added, “I urge all of my friends, neighbors and constituents to get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible.”
The vaccination site will be located in the Bronx Bay Eden Senior Center at 1220 East 229th St. Eligible
New Yorkers will be able to schedule an appointment for inoculation by visiting the “I am Eligible” website or by calling the state’s coVID-19 vaccination hotline.
The site is slated to be operational on Friday, March 19, 2021 at 8 a.m. Site hours will be Monday through Sunday 8a.m. to 7 p.m.
“Our neighborhoods in the Northeast Bronx were one of the hardest hit by Covid-19. Expanding access to the vaccine in our communities is a priority.
“I am thrilled to learn that a vaccine site will be opening at the Bay Eden Senior Center, right in the heart of the district. I encounge everyone to set up an appointment and make sure you and your loved ones are vaccinated. I would like to thank my colleagues in govemment for consistently joining me in advocating for our community.” said Senator Bailey.
“Getting vaccines to our community is an urgent responsibility of our govemment as we work to see our communities through to the other side of this pandemic,” Congressman Bowman said.
“In the Bronx alone 4,029 out of every 100,000 seniors have died— the most of any borough. I thank Speaker Heastie and the other leaders who have worked to secure this new vaccine site, which is going to save many lives.”
“Being vacecinated is the key to overcoming this publie health crisis,” said Councilman Riley.
“This facility will ensure that our community members have direet access to life saving vaccines, while also ensuring its equitable distribution to communities that have been the hardest hit during this pandemic.
“When we continue to work together on the behalf of our community, we get things done!” he added.
The North East Bronx area has been hard hit by the COVID crisis, making this site a necessary resource for
residents. Equity in vaccination distribution is an important part of combating the virus and ensuring herd immunity.
