District 14 Council member and candidate for Bronx borough president, Fernando Cabrera, has condemned the synagogue hate attacks in the Bronx.

Cabera expressed his condemnation in a statement issued on Monday April 26, 2021.

The statement was issued “in response to a string of antisemitic attacks over the weekend in the Riverdale neighborhood”.

“As acts of antisemitism are on the rise nationwide, it is heartbreaking to see hate hit home right here in the Bronx,” the statement reads.

“As both a faith leader and an elected representative, I join in the condemnation of the weekend attacks on synagogues in the Riverdale community and I call for swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Cabrera said in a statement.

“Our Jewish sisters and brothers have borne the excesses of hatred especially deeply throughout history.

“These last few years have seen dangerous storm clouds of bigotry and intolerance growing on our horizons and now it’s on our doorsteps in the Bronx. But hate has no home here and it never will,” he added.

He concluded that “The Bronx has always been a place for people of all faiths, creeds, colors and backgrounds-and these attacks will only strengthen our commitment to these traditions.”
