On Making Eating Unbearable by Pankhuri Sinha

1

Poem about the difficulties of enjoying modern life with invasiveness and stressful events. How this affects women.

heli

Worse

Digesting

Any and all of it

Food

Air

The smell of conspiracy

People’s war

The total occupation of privacy

Just digesting it

Without a pill

Digestion

That amazing thing

That happens

Inside

The very thin and curvy waists of women

Although

When she lifted her shirt today

The curve of it

Simply seemed straighter

With the thinning of everything she had

Except

Unnecessary complaint papers

Even

The description of all her work

Kept getting thinner

In an air thick with people’s talk

Mobilization

And a war around leaving

Constant moving.

  1. The poem digs deep.. It dwells on the essential existential crisis that envelopes us How we get caught up in cocoons of breathless bondage, be it of ecology food, air, nature, relationships , encroachments into our private precious self, or the octopus grip of work pressure.. the protagonist poetic self is giving us raw slices of life. Excellent thought well couched! In right diction.
