New York, NY – Mayor-elect Eric Adams, on December 17, has been announced his nomination of Jocelyn Strauber as Commissioner of the Department of Investigation (DOI). DOI serves as the City’s independent inspector general, combating corruption through its systemic investigations. Its jurisdiction includes criminal and civil investigatory authority over more than 45 mayoral agencies and an array of other City agencies, entities, boards, commissions, and authorities.

“New Yorkers are entitled to — and should expect nothing less than — honest government. My administration is committed to serving the City with accountability, transparency, and fidelity to the highest ethical standards. These values will guide our work every day as we strive to earn the trust of those we serve. A culture of good government requires real intention, and I expect every member of my administration to choose the path of integrity every day. DOI plays a vital role in protecting the City from fraud, waste, and abuse. For DOI to be effective, it must have an experienced, respected, and independent leader. Jocelyn Strauber is that leader. As a proven investigator, prosecutor, and defense attorney, she has the character, judgment, and skills needed for this critically important role. I look forward to working with her to ensure the City is not exploited and its resources are used properly to benefit its residents,” said Mayor-elect Adams

Strauber is a partner in the Government Enforcement and White-Collar Crime Group at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP; in that role, she represents companies and individuals in a wide array of criminal and civil enforcement matters. Prior to joining Skadden in 2013, she held numerous roles at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, including co-chief of the Criminal Division’s Terrorism & International Narcotics Unit. In her role as co-chief, Strauber supervised investigations and prosecutions involving terrorism and national security, arms trafficking, money laundering, violations of export controls and economic sanctions, and global narcotics trafficking. She supervised the successful prosecution of several high-profile terrorism and national security cases. Earlier in her career, Strauber clerked for the late William H. Rehnquist, Chief Justice of the United States, as well as for the Hon. A. Raymond Randolph in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. She also served as a Bristow Fellow in the Office of the Solicitor General of the United States. She graduated with a B.A. from Brown University, magna cum laude, and received her J.D. with high honors from Duke University School of Law, where she served as managing editor of the Duke Law Journal. Strauber is currently a resident of Manhattan.

“I am truly honored to be nominated to serve as the Commissioner of the Department of Investigation. By fighting corruption, waste, fraud, and abuse, and holding all City employees to the highest ethical standard, this independent office plays a critical role in safeguarding the City’s precious resources and ensuring that City agencies work better for all New Yorkers. I look forward to leading the dedicated professionals who work every day to protect and preserve integrity in government, a mission of unparalleled importance, and thank the Mayor-elect for the confidence he has placed in me by considering me for this position,” said Ms. Strauber.

Under the City Charter, the nomination of DOI commissioner must be confirmed by the City Council.
