President-elect Donald Trump is reportedly poised to name Florida Senator Marco Rubio as his Secretary of State, a move that could signal a shift in U.S. foreign policy under his administration.
According to sources, while neither Rubio’s team nor Trump’s camp have officially confirmed the decision, multiple sources say the appointment is all but certain.
“I hope to be a strong advocate for American interests abroad,” Rubio said in a recent interview, signaling his readiness for the role. Known for his hardline stance on Cuba, Iran, and China, Rubio has recently aligned more closely with Trump’s views, particularly on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. “Russia’s war in Ukraine needs to be brought to a conclusion,” Rubio stated, echoing the president-elect’s calls for an end to the conflict.
Rubio, a staunch supporter of Israel, has consistently taken conservative positions on Middle Eastern issues. In one high-profile instance, he accused President Joe Biden of “appealing to antisemites” within the Democratic Party by criticizing Israel’s actions in Gaza, urging the administration to revoke visas for pro-Palestinian protesters. Rubio has also led efforts to ban TikTok, calling it a “national security threat.”
Alongside Rubio, Trump has made other key appointments, including Rep. Mike Waltz as national security adviser and former Congressman Lee Zeldin to head the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. “We need leaders who understand the importance of securing American interests and putting American citizens first,” Trump said in a statement about his picks. These appointments are part of Trump’s broader strategy to reshape U.S. policy across multiple fronts.
With the 2024 administration shaping up, Trump’s picks are sending clear signals about his priorities, particularly in foreign policy and national security.
