Russian President Vladimir Putin have suggested Thursday that Russia may consider holding joint military exercises with North Korea, a move that would challenge international sanctions. When asked about potential drills with Pyongyang, Putin responded, “We’ll see. We could also conduct exercises. Why not?”
Putin emphasized that a recent partnership agreement between Russia and North Korea outlines mutual cooperation, including “mutual assistance in the event of aggression by another state.” He noted that the agreement essentially revives terms from a Soviet-era treaty.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy alleged that North Korean troops were fighting alongside Russian forces, with some sustaining casualties in combat. Zelenskiy claimed around 11,000 North Korean troops were deployed to Russia’s Kursk region, some reportedly engaged in clashes with Ukrainian forces.
