Dinowitz, Feliz top districts 11,15 NY City Council special election

Eric Dinowitz, candidate representing Your Bronx Voice party and Oswald Feliz, candidate representing People United Party, have topped the Special Election for the New York City Council, which took place on March 23rd.

The Board of Election in the City of New York released these results on the night of the election. Your Bronx Voice party candidate Eric Dinowitz led in District 11 poll against other 5 candidates with 2940 votes, claiming 42.04% of the total votes, while People United Party candidate Oswald Feliz led in District 15 poll against other 9 contestants with 973 votes , claiming 28.36% of the total votes counted.

Report gathered by New York Parrot shows that Dinowitz had flawless and wide victory in the Special election became the strong support he got from influential stakeholders like Speaker Corey Johnson, Borough President Ruben Diaz and of course Congressman Ritchie Torres, the man whose elevation brought about the vacancy.

In his reaction to the victory, Oswald Feliz, who was backed by Congressman Adriano Espaillat and other key stakeholders, thanked all his supporters and campaign volunteers.

“I want to thank all of the voters who participated in today’s election, and supported me. Also, thank you to our army of dedicated volunteers who made today possible, and our campaign manager Theona Reets, for working day and night. Thank you Congressman Adriano Espaillat for believing in my campaign, and being the best mentor I could ask for, and thank you to Assemblyman Victor Pichardo, Assemblywoman Carmen De La Rosa, Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez, for being on my side during this journey to the City Council,” Feliz said.

NYP gathered that the two empty City Council seats in the Bronx will stay empty a while longer as the outcome of the March 23 election yielded no clear outcome, because there was no candidate winning a majority of the vote in either race. The only thing left to determine the winner of the election is ranked-choice voting, a new system approved late last year.

The final tabulation will take place by hand no earlier than April 7, after all absentee and military ballots are received.

The Bronx 11th and 15th Council Districts Special Election proclaimed by Mayor Bil de Blasio came up because the positions were vacant after the November 2020 general elections which uplifted the candidates who were occupying the Council seats.
