Sheikh Musa Drammeh, co-founder of Healthy Lifestyle Lifespan, has shared how a last-minute cancellation of his campaign at Lincoln Hospital was averted after he confronted the hospital’s administration.
In a dramatic recounting of events, Drammeh described a phone call he received from Natasha Buke, the Chief of Staff to the hospital’s CEO, just one day before the planned gathering. “Bronxites have tolerated being mistreated by the same people whom they pay their salaries in public institutions. Not me and not ever,” he stated.
During the call, Buke informed Drammeh that his event was canceled, offering no specific reason. “I said my event is tomorrow,” Drammeh recalled, pressing for an explanation. When he received none, he made his position clear: “I paid over $72,000 in corporate and personal income taxes last year to keep the hospital open and your salary paid. Please find out who I am before making regrettable mistakes.”
Faced with the threat of escalating the situation, Drammeh reached out to community advocate David Coulibaly, alerting him to the cancellation. Coulibaly urged Drammeh to allow time to resolve the issue before taking further action. Within an hour, Buke called back to confirm that the event would proceed, albeit in a different room.
Reflecting on the outcome, Drammeh stated, “The event went on because I paid the hospital bills and the salaries of the CEO and Natasha Burke.” He expressed gratitude to Coulibaly and Alina Dowe for their support, stating, “Thank you for saving some employments in the Bronx.”
The event, which promotes a healthy lifestyle, marks a significant milestone in the community’s efforts to foster well-being among Bronx residents. As Drammeh noted, “Happy Healthy Lifestyle Month!” underscores the importance of resilience and advocacy in public health initiatives.
