Councilwoman Marmorato secures $4m for City Island Library upgrades
Councilwoman Kristy Marmorato announced a $4 million investment to revitalize the City Island Library
In a landmark move to support education and community well-being, Councilwoman Kristy Marmorato announced a $4 million investment to revitalize the City Island Library. The funding, in collaboration with The New York Public Library (NYPL), will allow for essential upgrades, including a new HVAC system, ensuring a safer and more comfortable space for local residents.
“As the Councilwoman of District 13, I am deeply committed to securing and protecting the resources that our families and children deserve,” said Councilwoman Marmorato. “Standing with The New York Public Library against proposed cuts was essential, as these spaces are invaluable for children, caregivers, and the entire community.”
Marmorato also expressed gratitude to Speaker Adrienne Adams for her assistance in securing the funds, emphasizing, “The $4 million allocated to the City Island branch is a long-overdue step in the right direction, but my work doesn’t stop here—I will continue to fight for the funding and resources that each neighborhood in District 13 needs to thrive.”
Brian Bannon, Merryl and James Tisch Director of NYPL, praised the investment: “We deeply appreciate Councilmember Kristy Marmorato’s generous $4 million gift to City Island Library. This award allowed the Library to make crucial updates to our HVAC system that would have been cost-prohibitive otherwise.”
Speaker Adrienne Adams also underscored the importance of the investment: “Public libraries are the pillars of our communities, and they deserve the city’s full investment. I was proud to join Council Member Kristy Marmorato in allocating $4 million in capital funding to City Island Library so that it can make critical updates to its infrastructure.
This investment will have a lasting, positive impact on residents in the Bronx, ensuring that our library spaces are safe, accessible, and comfortable for staff and patrons alike.”
The City Island Library serves as a vital community hub, providing access to computer stations, laptops, thousands of books, and a wide array of educational and social events. This infusion of funding will help ensure the library remains a thriving, inclusive space for residents of all ages.
