Iran’s United Nations mission has categorically dismissed allegations that it violated the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) by advancing its chemical weapons capabilities.

In a statement posted on its X account Thursday night, Iran’s UN mission refuted claims made in a recent report by the Institute for Science and International Security, which suggested Tehran has been exploring the production and deployment of pharmaceutical-based chemical agents (PBAs) using drones and other delivery systems.

“A victim of Western-donated chemical weapons employed by the Saddam regime, Iran stands as a responsible member of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC),” the mission declared. “Over the past several decades, not a single instance of Iranian violation has been recorded.”

The statement further attributed the accusations to psychological warfare. “The current unfounded reports are merely an outgrowth of psychological warfare propagated by the Zionist regime in the wake of its recent defeat on the Lebanese front,” the mission added.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) had earlier cited the November 26 report, alleging Iran’s focus on chemical agents for military use. Iran’s strong denial underscores its position as a country that has historically condemned the use of chemical weapons, particularly after suffering extensive attacks during the Iran-Iraq War.

The UN mission reiterated Tehran’s adherence to international obligations under the CWC, dismissing the accusations as politically motivated.
