New York City has created over 15,000 apprenticeship opportunities since 2021, Mayor Eric Adams announced, surpassing the halfway mark toward the administration’s ambitious goal of 30,000 by 2030.

Marking National Apprenticeship Week, the city also unveiled a $1.8 million investment to expand programs into fields like health care, technology, and the green economy.

“The future of New York City’s workforce is brighter because of the millions of dollars in investments we are making to ensure our young people have training for permanent employment,” Mayor Adams said. “These apprenticeships create pipelines of talent for employers and opportunities for New Yorkers to build careers in high-demand sectors.”

Key achievements include a 62% rise in non-construction apprenticeships and a nearly 2,000% increase in technology-focused roles since 2022. Programs like CareerWise have placed hundreds of public school students into paid, three-year apprenticeships, with 92% of participants identifying as people of color.

“This milestone is a testament to the hard work of our public- and private-sector partners,” said First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer. “We’re ensuring that New Yorkers of all backgrounds can access meaningful employment opportunities that tap into their diverse experiences and interests.”

With this milestone, the city aims to continue building an inclusive workforce, leveraging partnerships across sectors to drive economic mobility and meet evolving industry needs.
